Al’s Hammer She grinned. Not every day was quite this easy. But, there it was. A pale yellow sheen on the mixed grain of wheat and rye. She rubbed her arms in joyous containment. She paced about, swaying in a dance of two, two, four. She even clapped her hands in tiny wee delight, like a child. Cautiously, she placed her gain on a small pink plate with roses on the edge, caring not to trip, not now. Oh dear God, not now. Three feet from the table. Almost there. She had a thought, briefly, sweet, of how the butter would taste. She stopped. The plate fell, quick, simply, leaving her fingers, crashing against the tile. Standing, staring, gone; her love of time came into the room, going to her. Shhh, love, it’s ok. He glanced down. It had been a good moment for her, he knew, for she had buttered the bread right side up. ~*~ To those who suffer from Alzheimer's, to those who forget their life, to those who might find a good day, and dance. ~*~ © Karilea Rilling Jungel October 19, 2006 |

though it wasn't my sister's illness...her last few weeks were like this and you have expressed it "as it truly is". M |

Oh Karilea, you know how this has touched my heart. As you know, I worked with the alzheimers for several years. It is so sad to see that they have forgotten how to do the most simple things. |

"to those who might find a good day, and dance" We get so wrapped up in our minor emergencies and mishaps... we forget to celebrate our victories. You wrote an incredible reminder... |
