Red Stick

In my office ther is a stick,
and by stick I mean a length of wood
the length of my forearm.

It's red and has lines in it,
carved like a spiral staircase
for a knat or flee or very small person.

I said it was red, but not all the way.
At some places you can see the wood,
or someone put a small amount of
wood colored paint in places
to make it look like two of these sticks
were rubbed together.

And that brings up two questions:
Why is this stick in my office, and
If I were this stick,
who's paint would have rubbed off on me?
