She wrote of things long gone, things that linger in her memory. The scent of love, the sound of joy, the piercing of loss. Memories that present themselves from the corner of her mind at times when everything else is still. Sometimes it hurts her to the point of sobbing behind the closed door of a bathroom. Where the world is locked out, if only for a moment. Rinsing every trace of tears from her face, she erases all indications that life wasn’t what she presented to the outside. Always a painted smile, a perfect lilt, she was the supreme actress upon her stage. I watch her sometimes wondering if she will ever stop pretending and fly to what it is that keeps her heart, or if that is an impossibility and the reason she writes more than she lives. Leaving me to weep at the beauty of loss so deep that it seeps into and upon everything she touches in a way that can never be explained. "too bad ignorance isn't painful" ~Unknown~ |

But...that's a good thing! hugs, Chris |

The line that caught ice caught me: "she writes more than she lives" I don't think you know how much I can relate to that. You are truly gifted with words. Something good to live for with writing abilities like that. Cheers - Ed |

Ah, Sus, two heartbeats are heard loudly in this: one sad and forlorn, seemingly self-doomed to sorrow, and one warmed by an overflow of understanding, compassion. |

Oh, yes, a most enjoyable read. Perhaps the forlorn beauty you speak of has found her life in writing and I would hope that it brings a measure of satisfaction to her. |

Very strong and powerful.....there is beauty in everything, even sadness and pain. After I read this, I thought of Emily Dickinson--how she hid herself away from the world, and yet captured such truths of life. Well done! ~sky I hope someday you get the chance to live like you were dying.... |

Susan, you've a compassionate heart! It takes so much to look away from the rubble where life once grew, but only stones and jagged edges remain. What strength it must take for her to leave no trace upon her face. My eyes sting just reading this! Beautifully penned! ~ Klassy |

Susan Caldwell, I suppose very common and so very heart wrenching is this 'forlorn beauty' that you describe so very well here through your poetry. Your poem was very well written. -Bob |

Thank you all. The "she" is different people (man or woman) in one.... "too bad ignorance isn't painful" |

"She" is no less real, for being a composite of several people. My admiration and understanding for the forlorn beauty, and my gratitude to you for your compassionate caring. - Owl |

I hate the thought of someone having to hide behind fake smiles. This is full of pain, but also full of truth. Sometimes I guess it's easier to hide though. |

Memories that present themselves from the corner of her mind at times when everything else is still. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That is such a beautiful verse!! I think we've all been to that corner when everything is still....all by ourselves. Such a pretty, sad song, Susan~ You did really good~ |
