superman never died Inspired by Hopes poem yesterday Entitled “To Good To Be True” Superglue background, ruffles fingers indisputable with a drenching feel none the less, a wart on the nose of discern carved out pieces of broken hardwood bolting tones to the floor like a non-reciprocating elephant proudly hesitating when I wasn’t quit sure what they were talking about while I cradled my Raggedy Ann reading her a golden book bout the time of scooby and shaggy giving myself over entirely to studying lemons which tip-toed away their hipbones grinding against mine wearing shorts with big wooden swings & hush puppies skinny dipping nobody expects unfair, yanno? it simply hangs out at creeks, fussing about unsolved mysteries pulling at your wristwatch, painting a cross on grandma’s nervous head where the moon always rose over her arbor & crickets talked to the stars and there I lay still, listing to visitors grow wishing it was their street all dressed up in evening's nostalgia pushing strollers of mountain roads while grandpa put his foot down something awful to the price of gas life always seemed to kiss the cheek of cereal sounds with attitude reading stuff in The National Enquirer laughing at worst dressed mad magazines until rain really came down flashing lightning & thunder that hurt your ears so bad even the orphanages ran away Tonight Grandma looks better then she ever did stronger, more beautiful, comforting in this enclosed space of yesteryear... her perfume steaming a wink of style without missing a beat as she adoringly strokes my hair, nodding an iridescent smile from the place where she lives silently her eyes croon, “always set your standards high girl!” displeasing…. to know those stupid boys with high sounding blue corvettes never looked through grandma’s window or saw that tall oak on the corner grow to one thunderous wide open mouthed repetitive habit nice ones like fireworks on 4th of July volleying lights of heroes we never knew but surely packed our picnic lunches that grandma was familiar with whenever she looked at you out of the corner of her eye… you just knew someone with the name Witherspoon had just sauntered by… cutting to the chase... mumma wiped smeared lipstick off my face lovingly tucking a napkin under the chin of my dreams… “it’s awful good!” I think, “those pews of long time ago…" everyone passing around fresh made bread at a table accurate masterpieces with true quality true grits I was softer for it… chewing on wonder for a long time, never missing disposable morals or those who have passed me by and will continue to do so I no longer look to see or care if they are still looking at me? yup, i can hear the music absorbing the taste, of the stage from it tin roofs with faith in prayers open slatted wood walls of an unpainted house and those boys... lordie, those boys... who always thought being friends meant a roll in the hay???? yup, fundamentals in humanity is not like recycled ply board of today no wonder life insurance & house insurance is so necessary sure is relieving to know Superman Never Dies [This message has been edited by LeeJ (06-07-2006 08:53 AM).] |

Lee~ You tuck so many wonderful thoughts into a piece ... it begs to be read again and again~ That's what I'm doing ... finding morsels of self~ *Huglets* ~*Marge*~ ~*The sound of a kiss is not as strong as that of a cannon, but it's echo endures much longer*~ |

LeeJ "nobody expects unfair, yanno? it simply hangs out at creeks, fussing about unsolved mysteries pulling at your wristwatch, painting a cross on grandma’s nervous head" You are amazingly thought filled...I learn from you, ya know? |

Wow! Incredibly nostalgic write--and wonderful! Lee, I am growing up (again) in the imagery and feeling of your thoughts that flicker through the lines of this poem like an old time talkie...such a delight to read and breathe in the familiar, yet uncomfortable visions of becoming a woman. It is strange how things change, yet stay the same in the evolution of youth to maturity. With superman, I wonder if I will ever stop wishing for the romance of a hero...but even Superman must leave a woman to stand her own. ~ Klassy |
