When Midnight Screams When midnight screams like a diamond in the bright sun your face glows never mind the halo of blue darkness the streets live wild yet they remain as empty as the late night hour and televisions keep blaring away while the neighbors pray to their dreams so I walk the city streets blind because the lights have burned out like the vision in my soul a staggering mess But I can feel the touch of your spirit it breathes on me like a warm breeze I’m guided onward I’m filled with the steel of bone Still, sad as I may be glorious as I may want to be I pretend to hear laughter I pretend to walk by your side our fingers twisted together clutching, grabbing, holding on then I look but find the street still empty no place to hide from the rain just another long walk home with dawn to greet me on my doorstep while the neighbors’ televisions still blare away… dreams unanswered www.robertedwardlevin.com |

Robert So emotive...the scene well painted the mood of sad and missing. My favorite: "But I can feel the touch of your spirit it breathes on me like a warm breeze I’m guided onward I’m filled with the steel of bone" because it offers hope. I don't think I've said welcome to Passions...I do now! |

Hello Robert, and welcome to Passions In Poetry. Your poem touched my heart. I really enjoyed reading it. I especially liked this part.... "But I can feel the touch of your spirit it breathes on me like a warm breeze I’m guided onward I’m filled with the steel of bone Still, sad as I may be glorious as I may want to be I pretend to hear laughter I pretend to walk by your side our fingers twisted together clutching, grabbing, holding on" Hugs, Ethel Ethel's Love Poetry My Happy In Love Poetry Site Ethel's Heart Poems My SpiritIsUp Poetry Shelf |

oh, the ache of being caught inside darkness, wanting to grab a moment of light and this write, aches...so beautifully. I love the midnight moments, when I am seemingly trapped in darkness; for in them, I appreciate the seconds of light that warms face and soul. The stark dark/light contrast brings me to an emotional peak that 'grey toned' moments just can't. LOL, hope that makes sense. |

Sigh. I felt the loneliness to be very real here in your poem. Very descriptive and well written. -Bob |

A raw, vivid and scathing write - This hurt to read, as I do relate... Melissa~ Intellectually I know that Canada is no better than any other country. Emotionally I KNOW that Canada is the best country in the world! |

There are times when the art of pretending allows for a certain reality to soon take place... if you dream it... it will be. Enjoyed, Robert. |

"Screams like a diamond in the bright sun" Hello Robert, this is very poetic, and packed full of imagary. I love walking my dog at night, looking into windows that are reflective during the day. I can see why you used this scenario to express the frustration that is evident in this piece...city living is crowded, but lonely, especially at night. Also, I'm admiring the clever little social comment you put into your poem, about t.v. A dark work, indeed. |

"I pretend to hear laughter I pretend to walk by your side our fingers twisted together clutching, grabbing, holding on then I look but find the street still empty no place to hide from the rain just another long walk home with dawn to greet me on my doorstep while the neighbors’ televisions still blare away" Magnificent Robert! Reminds me vaguely of Jackson Browne's "The Pretender." "true love could have been a contender" |

so I walk the city streets blind because the lights have burned out like the vision in my soul a staggering mess loved this... but wanted to say the only difference was for me, I was driving the streets instead of walking them ( too dangerous for a woman to walk late at night) |

Dreams....so often they are illusive, and I wonder how much they are a form of prayer. This touched me sadly. So many of us understand this feeling of waiting in the dark for that golden glow of sun. ~ Klassy |
