Civilized Man When I think about time and space, and the struggle of the human race. I can't see a lot of change in the heart of man. When looking back down through the ages, from the rise of man and how his heart so rages. I wonder who will answer for all that blood. While sifting through the sands of time, trying to make sense of this life of mine. I really don't think we've learned one damn thing. The weapons of old were sticks and stones, while one man laughs the other moans. He ain't my brother is always the battle cry. Some kingly sort with money to burn, wants to teach the masses what they long to learn. How to rob and kill their neighbors, and make them like it. While waving a flag for a self-rightous cause, the people fall in line without giving pause. Whose blood will pay the cost and for what? Sometimes I just can't stand to look upon the heart of my fellowman. To tell the truth it's a black hole of depravity. I know you may not like what I have to say, looking back it's always been that way. Civilized man always thinks he's at the top of the heap. While counting our blessing by what we own, never considering who we had to walk upon to get it it's pathetic. Sometimes I just don't give a durn, I don't think mankind will ever learn. I think I'll just dig a damn big hole, and crawl on in it. . |

Some things never....changes! Generation after generation we make the same mistakes. I understand your frustration. A read that after can only make one shake their head in agreement and than raise their hand and plead guilty as charged. thanks for sharing this, picturegramic |

I started to read me as I went into reading this rant But one thought occurred to me And I still know what that thought was What are you going on about All the violence, all the agression There seems to be no point, no aim, no reason no direction, no thought Words all are I have Don't destroys words Or those who might first be thinking, learning of a talent And to get some words Better used Read these words Can you not take your words, review them, and try to look at my old friend 'Tx-Rx-Noise' dave |

Dear Steven, It was not the apple on the tree that caused the fall, But the "pair on the ground" and the rest of us all! The problem of evil boils down to a mystery and it maybe we are too afraid to go beyond this answer and start a blaming game-- God, the devil, etc. Now you know where this will lead to and that is just the problem and therefore the mystery of why? Thanks. |

Can I at least Ask you to look at the use of the word 'man' or failing that go back in history and dine with the 'Borgias' People make history not man unless you are going to personally give "birth" We live with women in various ways - without needing legal title Other partnerships Not my business But referring to the world as men created it Is nonsense Too many Woman have produced children For a man to say Man created the world Dave |

Steven, never give up hope that mankind can move forwards and awaken to the truth that we are One. I think many feel the way you feel, but we need ACTION, not resigning. Action of Love. Good write. Love, Margherita |

I agree, it is not a gender issue...many a conflict or war has been waged over the maids, maidens or damsels in life....Yes, Man is responsible, and I too doubt it will ever significantly change until a major, very major disaster makes our heads turn ... |

"I know you may not like what I have to say" Steve, I very much like what you have to say and the way you say it. Please don't crawl in a damn big hole. We need you here. |

What we do learn, my friend, is that we are not alone; and that when we align and assimilate, we can count the number of them that would bring hope to change. Well done, Sir. Look at all of the thinking you've created! |

Steven, my friend "Sometimes I just don't give a durn, I don't think mankind will ever learn. I think I'll just dig a damn big hole, and crawl on in it." I understand this place...reaching my hand out to pull you to the place where I see life as so precious, each minute a song...I cannot go to that dark place when there is so much light. Steven - If we are unable to change the intolerable, and that most times is the case, I'm all for digging a hole but that hole is just a personal distancing from ... evil (love that word) and not allowing the world to pull me away from what I believe to be right. So, in that context it is possible to live in a hole and still enjoy the light of life! But you can "drop in" any time for a visit. |

Thank you all for your replys as Sunshine says there is a lot of thinking going on here. My point may have been better made if I had called this poem "A Damn Big Hole". I fall in them and so does everyone else. These holes are called fear, denial, arrogance, hatred, and on and on. They might cause us to sit in the safety of our closets with our little candle leaving our fellows in darkness. But are we really of the light if we fear the darkness? I think it is supposed to be the other way around. The world is in dire need of a lot of little candles. We have to deal with these matters, if not we leave it to the hearts of darkness to decide our fate. God Bless! :-) |
