ALL POETS SERVE A MASTER Most poets have a bit of Solomon Shakespeare and Poe within. Constantly eager to share their visions Of love, life, joy and sin. Some guzzle whiskey Some sip wine, Some prefer cola And feel just fine. Some smoke pot Or suck cigarettes, Some abuse drugs With lifetime regrets. Some attend church And sing of God, While others make fun And call them odd. All have a purpose, Which drives them to compose. All serve a master, Who by free will, they chose. o' skies that knit their heartstrings right, To fields that bred them brave, The saviours come not home to-night: Themselves they could not save. |

...and I think the key phrase is "free will." Thanks for sharing. Take care, Liz...Carpe Diem

And some, in the space of one lifetime, attempt to do all of the above. Those are the ones I most enjoy reading. I always cringed hearing that old Sinatra song "I did it my way" but adopt that very philosophy. BTW, welcome to the Pipster forums. |

You have made an interesting observation and statement...I agree, yet at the same time, I sorta disagree...and I like your choices of poets... |

I do agree, I have given my pen to my master, and hope one day to kneel and have Him say, 'well done my good and faithful servant' *smile* |

I just like to play around with words....do little experiments, see what they make. I've never set out to create something grand, nor even to expound some great idea. I notice something about the way life works, and then I tinker with words and shapes and balances, to help someone else notice it too. ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> |

I'm just slipping into insanity and surprised that no one has told me to shut the hell up. Even though I know I'm hearing it from somewhere.... ::shrugs:: |

Sometimes you need a little poison to unimpede the flow of inspiration or a few funky ideas to get the big ones rolling. It would be interesting to know what's at the root of so many thoughts and ideas that invest civilation and would we still respect them if we did. So the obvious conclusion is, it's better not to know or we may actually be in for a major 'Decline of the West'. Also sprach Spengler! |

I did read this! Will Rhyme sure hit the nail on the head in response to this one. I enjoyed reading it, too. One of my favorite old poets is Sara Teasdale Klassy |

Yes....that's the other half. I like to play with words and patterns....BUT...there are times when there is something like a stream in me with words in it, images and meanings in it, and I did not create them. They are simply there and must be written. ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> |

All? Are you certain? Could there be, at least ONE poet who has never subscribed to your philosophy? Will |
