My African sky today, today, in the hush of another Sunday calls to the mourners and me to look past the lie of this land ~ and I do, I do, look up, up, up, and, oh, how the blue shimmers when grief’s in its infancy. In the now silence of “after the fact” memories disjointed and scattered come together like lovers to give and receive the pleasure of being. And there’s pleasure in memory like in the sky when nobody cries for stark in blue a different view dries up the flood of grief but I cannot see and so I kneel to a mountain of disbelief. But mountains in play-act beauty merely rocks of intractable notions interspersed with piles of dirt ~ and I kneel to that? I really like blue, it’s more for me than a dirty, so dirty, brown but it’s a long, long, way to go from brown to blue and into relief from the demands of grief. Grief like a baby, needy, hungry, and it’s in my nature to give and give and give until suddenly I’m holding a sleeping child ~ until the next time it cries and sky again asks for my eyes. Helen "Grief like a baby, needy, hungry, and it’s in my nature to give and give and give until suddenly I’m holding a sleeping child" Hard to say how grief is...and it's relief? Blue is a good color for that. ![]() |

Thanks, Martie. Grief perhaps needs to be fed the attention it deserves before it sleeps and its sleep is our relief until ... ![]() |

You're right Helen....I gave attention to it for many years until it finally eased into a kind acceptance...but there is always more, isn't there...just to remind how fragile life is. |

WOW! The imagery in this poem is very good; and the way you describe Grief really touch me. And I like these line: "In the now silence of “after the fact” memories disjointed and scattered come together like lovers to give and receive the pleasure of being." |

"Grief like a baby, needy, hungry, and it’s in my nature to give and give and give until suddenly I’m holding a sleeping child ~ until the next time it cries and sky again asks for my eyes." _______________________________________ This poem has touched me so much so that I'm almost at a loss for words.....The last stanza is powerful, excellent use of imgery throughout the poem....Grief is painful yes, but writing does help to heal over time - I've had to learn that. I'm saving this ![]() Melissa~ Intellectually I know that Canada is no better than any other country. Emotionally I KNOW that Canada is the best country in the world! |

Thank you, WindWalker and Melissa. Yes, time is a teacher but I wish it wouldn't repeat the lessons already learnt because then it wouldn't have to keep on healing. |

Tears for you, Helen, your beautiful poem and all of our grief here at Pip. I loved seeing and feeling our wonderful South Africa througout the poem - even your mine dumps (that I think were there). This is my favourite of your poems. - Owl |

and I do, I do, look up, up, up, and, oh, how the blue shimmers when grief’s in its infancy. how do you do, what you do so well...a brilliant look at the not so nice side of life, yet showing us how to grobble for all the positive we can muster up... well done! |

Thank you very much, LeeJ, but, you know, we all have to be like those toys that keep bouncing up after being pushed down - it's the nature of life. |
