Moon Starer Oh father, tell me how you harnessed the planets, caught within your gaze, and brought them back to earth? Beyond your looking glass, you saw a galaxy outside our comprehension. You showed us Jupiter’s scarlet moons, Saturn’s tawny rings, the crystalline stars of the Milky Way, and told us there were mountains on the moon if we would only believe. You taught us life is made up of things we can not gauge; then before our eyes made the immeasurable quantifiable. God spoke to you, whispered, in numbers, fractions and calculations; but only you could hear his voice. God spoke to you …and the church proclaimed you a heretic. This poem is a bit different than what most here might expect from me. In case you had a problem understanding this piece, let me explain: The title, Moon Starer, is an anagram for astronomer and the poem is about Galileo who has been labled the father of science, physics, and astronomy. He is credited for being one of the first to use a telescope to view the planets and he was known to have said God spoke in mathmatics and that we need to make the immmeasurable measurable. Because of his view that the Earth revolved around the sun he was labled a heretic by the church and sentenced to a life of imprisonment. I am nothing special...and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me,this has always been enough.~N.S |

... and now Pluto is no longer a planet... I enjoyed this Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write. |
