An Appetite For Joy

The buzz of an August afternoon
Flits it’s fancy across new mown fields
Sunspots creep across laughing leaves
Dabbing freckles on broad green sleeves
Prone in clover grass as daylight chases
Magnify inspection, changing faces

Hours float by, sunny side to painted sky
Gardens shed the suppleness of new
Memories of better times are few
Turned belly down upon the earth
A chin rest, hand on hand traverse
Noted scurry to prepare a point of view

Faint, the summer sunset falls to null
Dinnertime and table side the opal glow
Creative thoughts make shadow to the page
Line dried pleasure in the winds to wage
Done, the tasks demanded of this day
Gone, the hours slowly ticked away

And yet, this energy resounds its weight
Growling at a rising moon’s articulate
A hunger for the dreams left waiting
Disquieted, the night debating, stay
For the taste of every moment saved
When still the sweet of love is craved

Norman Rockwell couldn’t have painted a more picturesque view.
Great write Kathy!

A hunger for the dreams left waiting

~*~

There are times when I leave dreams,
knowing they will return...

and I'm this anxious...

knowing I need them as much as
they need me.

Well done, Kathleen.
