Sunday, August 13, 2006: The streets grasps at our throats, like a snake. Mad and hungry. Seeking revenge. Till I reach the point of my avenge. In result to singe the feathers of the eagle. Guns fit and feel so good in he palm of our hands. Side stands robbed. And we wonder why kids, adults, teens, men, women, & dreams die. And our school systems educate no one and teach nothing. But more abuse from the teasing. So tell me... What's the use. And they wonder why young African-Americans in Middle School have a GPA of 2.5. yeah, it's sad, but our community does nothing. But laugh in the faces of the youth. As the government becomes richer.. And our society becomes poor. I write this poem in the pen of a youth. And me unafraid, I'll speak the truth. Around four blocks . Kids, knowing nothing, causing trouble. Throwin' rocks. Stones, to break windows, instead of slingin' them Amethyst Rocks of culture. And a way to express. Look at him, struggled through the game of Life. Smacked in the face with success. And guess what, it felt good. The point: Our society, taught nothing. Exploring the ring. Pressed and touched around her finger, instead of fire. Mixing up the green, yellow, and red wire. Plus black... The four colors of the universe. Slappin' hands like it's really just friendly. Sayin' hey. But you got three hundred-dollar bills and the other got a kilo. Tellin' their lil bro, that it's the way to live. A lifestyle. The game of a man. Just collect that doe. Runnin' the streets, late at night. What's left, but a curfew for people under eighteen. Duckin' low. Scared to be seen. Dodgin' to the side, into alley's, scurrying to hide. Boys, down for life, ridin' 'till the day they die. Homie got your back. Summertime, runnin' from the police. Gang fight. He done left you behind. Dressed in black. Hard to be seen in the woods, yet bright in the city light. Fluorescent orange. And I stand up here preachin' because I've learned to speak up and not be afraid to be understood. 'Cause we best the streets. We beat the hood. ****Let me know what you think**** -------------------- Clarissa S. Poet At Heart Can you flow like that? www.myspace.com/PoetAtHeart93 |

I like your open honesty, and that you don't hold your tongue. You are a powerful voice, a reality checkpoint so many prefer not to acknowledge. Kudos to you. |

Very powerful and vivid stuff...creates images in my head instantly...may be if it were made into a biographical poem, this piece would blend in wonderfully...I hope u produce more quality sruff like this in the future. I think this piece tells a lot, but its something i've constantly heard before... |
