some nightmares carry over to the day |

our questions can't be answered by any words our lips could ever form but we scream them at walls and into each other's ears as the need to be assured swells inside our pleading minds. these thoughts can't be made to sit still as they race and run and the possibilities they carry pound deep inside our chests and rise to meet our throbbing heads. the resolutions we're craving with such an ache are held within the bodies we carry as our own but we can't seem to coax them into light no matter how long we beg with ourselves. fists slam hard against wood and rock and girls with eyes like mirrors collapse into corners and bend and break and topple onto stairs with heads in hands and tears on knees. strong silent figures stand high above with steady breaths but shattered eyes that belong on the floor with the bodies of their baby girls but hold themselves up, in an attempt to lift those already low. all the composure we could scrape together would never compose us enough to be able to sit straight up and keep our hands folded in our laps with painted smiles on our faces. trees fall all the time, but their sounds are never heard and hearts pour themselves out just the same, but are never felt or known by those not there to sign as whitness. close the door, and click the lock and we'll slump down onto cold clean tile that acts as a physical reminder to the point that we're still here while resting our heads against something that could never be blunt enough to knock us out of the reality we wish was a nightmare we'd recover from by daybreak. |

This poem is special. It speaks of so much and it wrapped me in emotion. It's among the best I have read here. |
