Mermaid Tears

mermaid tears polished and smooth,
softly colored in oceanic hues
aqua, amber, and the deepest of green
smooth sides shaped to a velvet sheen.
salted and buffeted by the water's waves
leaving a beauty no mortal can save
tears that flowed from eyes of brown
placed on warm sands as a gift to be found
created by the sadness from a lover's lost vow
riding the tides to where they lay now
a heart lies broken on the floor of the sea
but mermaid tears shine and beckon teasingly
jewels to be found on the distant shores
left by a mermaid alive no more
killed by a promise that was not to be
imprisoned by a home she longed to leave
wondrous tales untold, the words now lost
of a woman who loved and paid the cost

Thank you both.

The Lady, you made me smile -- a huge smile when I read  your words.

Potatobunny, I am enjoying reading your words here on the board.  Thank you for taking the time to stop at my poem.
