Please don't take offense.  This was written tongue in cheek, just for fun.

Pedigree

He knew that life was not a joke
He wouldn't buy a pig in poke.
He'd been raised with integrity
To be the best that he could be.

Farm grown, he learned to check for line.
Though first appearances were fine,
Filly or calf must stand the test.
He wanted nothing but the best.

When he bought his first used car
I knew this lad was going far.
It was plain to see he understood
He must first look beneath the hood.

When it was time to seek a wife,
His most important choice in life,
As if knowing what he was about
He reached in blindly, pulled one out

In the game of sweet romance
A meddling mother has no chance;
Helpless in disbelief as he
Forgets to check her pedigree.

Young women, don't be cross with me.
You know it's true as it can be
You never buy inferior brand.
No wonder I can't understand

That when its time to choose a mate,
You'd rather leave it up to fate.
I truly think it is a pity,
You choose him just because he's pretty.

Well Joyce, tongue in cheek or not, I was one of those that picked the "pretty ones."  I have since learned that the lines of a once-learned song should have been sung way louder at me when I was younger. Remember this one?  You can substitute woman for man, works both ways.

Actually, I think you portray a good message here. There are some who pick for that very reason. But, I suppose, the only way to realize that, you have to have been there, done that, or seen it happen. "tongue and cheek" or no. Hahah, nice write.

Joyce~

My grandpappy spoke
of a pig-in-a-poke
But, I never thought that he
came even close to realizing
that's what his second wife would be~

Gramma gone, he was so alone
went to the country fair
found her replacement
in the ice cream stand there~

Fell for her
hook, line and sinker
having no idea
she'd turn out such a stinker~

Grandpappy's smile soon faded
for this replacement was jaded
she never had the proper pedigree
to even come close to what Gramma used to be~

Tee-Hee-Hee ... couldn't help wallowing in your ink~

You're a delight~

Good one Joyce!
And how true!  I've been there.

But into my heart..

I'm sorry so many have been there and Marge I was thinking more of Grandsons than Grandpappys.  But I guess even we elders aren't immune.  Love, Joyce

I've not only seen it, but
been there and done that...
and it is a very hard lesson
to remember when lust-light
gets into one's eyes...

We should all be as careful
of a mate, as we are with a car.

Good for you, Joyce!
Excellent lesson...

now lets see if we can get them to listen!
