One year ago: The Two Gaza Girls The One: She sat stoically in the desert sun, arms falling helplessly alongside her hips. A weary song fell from her parched lips, sad as the day had begun. She left her home behind her, packed a handful of memories, never once looking back, for fear her heart might turn to stone. ~ TheOther: She carried her small bags over the desert sands, stepping gingerly in footprints left behind. She searched for an omen in the clear blue skies, set for home with a smile in her eyes. She left behind the dusty tent, marching forward to barren lands, to build a new life for herself on formerly occupied lands. *and again, today: Shalom! Shalom! Shalom! Peace be with you, Oh, Israel and Palestine! How swift the rift divides the hearts of all the people! It’s not just a strip of land, Gaza. It is families and faiths, ripped apart at the heart. And lest we forget, this Earthspace is not ours forever, anyway. A mourning morning, full of wailing walls seemingly too high to scale. If we can get beyond this self imposed jail, recycling the wail of generations, can peace prevail? I put my hopes in you, the people of Gush-Shalom, an Israeli Peace Bloc, and the hundreds of Palestineans who pray each day for peace. May all your dreams come true. ~dedicated to all who try to build bridges of understanding~ |

Kacy "If we can get beyond this self imposed jail, recycling the wail of generations, can peace prevail?" I don't know, in truth if there will ever be peace like this. War is such a hungry part of people. Perhaps one person or two can be a beginning? Thanks for this. |

"I put my hopes in you, the people of Gush-Shalom, an Israeli Peace Bloc, and the hundreds of Palestineans who pray each day for peace. May all your dreams come true." Kacy, you still hit me in the gut. May the God of Mercy hear their prayers and ours. |

Martie, thank you dear lady. It always begins that way, with one heart letting go of pretense and defense, to connect with one willing to accept, believe, and trust. Thank you Lady. I know this isn't a pleasant subject, and know most who read this won't reply. That's OK, I shall keep writing things like this anyway. It's impossible for me to quit believing there is still a chance for humanity to step up to a higher level. |

Kacy, I too, see peace between Israel and Palestine - or world peace, for that matter - as simple, albeit complexly simple. Of course, if the world were peopled with a lot more Kacies, it would be even simpler! Look at what happened in my country, South Africa! We could have had a blood bath in 1992, but we didn't. Of course, it could have been and still could be a lot more successful, but I believe our country will become more peaceful in time and that things are happening to that aim. In conflict, one just has to have both sides working in the same direction, and prepared to relinquish something/give something for the good of all - the "what" to relinquish and the "what" to give, being the most difficult to agree on, but whatever the "whats" it would be better than struggle. Loved your poem. Thanks for it and at least one Kacy in the world. - Owl |

sad thing is we have a hard time getting along in our own country that is fairly civilized... I know the feeling of prejudice sometimes hidden behind the mask... and it is a shame for we all have the same inner makeup and basic needs no matter the religion or nationality. M |

Continue building your word bridges, Kacy... one never knows when someone will walk the way to the words of peace. Well done, m'friend. |

Kacy, Regardless of the words, which are beautiful, and the thoughts, which are grand, it is the utter absence of judgement that makes this piece powerful. For it is the judgements that fuel the anger, the rage, the insanity that makes people believe they can put out fire by throwing gasoline on it. And if a little gas doesn't do the trick, then they come to the obvious conclusion that they just didn't throw enough. Thank-you, for real humans everywhere. Interloper: inspired words indeed, and inspiring. I am going to post a piece I wrote in the early '90s called, "The Night the Cold War Died." It will be in the prose section. Thanks for the wake-up call. This isn't Kansas anymore. A poem's just a poet in a word. |
