I
thought
about
Grandma

an awful lot today.

Little things
often cause
the hands of Time
to move backwards
and bring shadows
of the Past to the
forefront of Mind.

Memories sparked by sights,
sounds and smells.

Precious Time Machines.

Grandma
smelled like Ben-Gay
and she always made
my eyes water.

All of her children were grown
with families of their own
and she would take turns
staying a few months with each.

I liked it when she came.
I would get so excited
knowing that she would
bring late Christmas presents.

Christmas presents in the Spring
is a very exciting thing to a small child.

After several such visits...
I no longer looked
forward to the presents.

I still looked forward
to seeing Grandma.
But...
A kid doesn't get too
enthusiastic over
T-shirts and socks.

Grandma
always talked
to the television.

If someone on T.V. asked
a question or did something
that she agreed with or
disapproved of...
She would either answer
Yes or No or
smile and nod or frown
and shake her head in disgust.

Near the end of her life
she loved Hawaii 5-0.

She never knew what it was called
and had no clue who Jack Lord was,
but every week she would ask...

"When does Stoney Burke come on?"

Anyway...
There are many
memories of her
and I thought about
Grandma today...

How much I miss her...

and how badly I need
a pair of socks.

my grandma always gave me bras, which she must have been blind to get such a huge size for me, that or wishful thinking I don't know

grandmas are pretty much alike in some ways so it seems, especially the use of Ben Gay

my grandma smelled like Youthdew.
funny. "youth". She was like seventy five.
Then again she wore it for as long as I could remember.
Grandmas are the best. And it was good old undies for me.
nice poem, by the way. *grin*

I liked this poem, it made me remind myself of my grandmothers. May they rest in peace.

I enjoyed this poem, very much.
