A celebration of denial, yet a celebration June 22, 2006. In times of despair and tragedy The world has come to see The International Red Cross As a humanitarian entity. A Red Crescent A Red Cross Today, a new Red Diamond (In lieu of The Magen David star) And today we celebrate A kind of "acceptance," For the Israelis may now Go about their humanitarian rescues Carrying the International symbol Of "humanitarian help and hope" But sadly, we are celebrating something Done once again by the force of money, More specifically, The power of monetary denial, the US pocketbook withholding funds unless and until a new symbol was agreed upon. Not a change wrought by a change of heart... Not by a change of direction... No new acceptance of the right to exist. But after nearly 6o years, At least the Israeli ambulances Can maneuver the streets Under the auspices of Internationally accepted rules. |

Midnitesun, I feel sarcasm to the core regarding universally accepted codes of conduct these days. What a paradox--that killing has a universally accepted set of rules! A very thought provoking write, that does 'hit me in the solar plexus.' As well it should. Thanks for sharing. ~ Klassy p.s. That's not to say that I don't encourage hope and humanitarianism. I do. |
