Faces of the City They sit upon the rain soaked bench, Eyes lowered, the hushed voices of illicit love. She twists the ring on the finger of her left hand and embraces her daily guilt. And as the cathedral clock speaks of noon’s passing, They search once more for the answers in the bottom of the paper lunch bag they share. And with a final, stolen kiss, They return to the prison of their mundane lives. Beneath the abandoned rail bridge, She sits amongst the debris of more fortunate lives. Huddled against the cold that pierces her pallid skin. Amethyst eyes close against the reality she seeks to deny, And in her mind, she wraps her arms around one who sees that she is worth more than loose change in the bottom of a styrofoam cup. A winter’s day dawns, waking the slumbering world, But not the one beneath the bridge She chose to stay In the arms of imagined love. Traffic lights flash their permission for the bus to pull away, The raindrops racing each other down the window. Mirroring the tears that slide silently down the cheeks of the face staring from the rear window. Nondescript features, easily ignored as other lives pass by, carrying the weight of their own personal baggage. Her tears pass unnoticed, as she raises the hood of her coat. Carrier bags digging into her palms as she makes her way home to a family who notice her only when the dinner is late. The kettle boils and she wonders idly where her life has gone. |

"Amethyst eyes close against the reality she seeks to deny, And in her mind, she wraps her arms around one who sees that she is worth more than loose change in the bottom of a styrofoam cup." A beautiful, wistful write. A haunting first post indeed. Welcome to Pip. And welcome to Open! It's a wonderful forum and there's lots of lovely people here to share with and learn from. well written ...the loneliness that affects so many of us at different stages of our lives. Sometimes I wonder ( having been there) how much we contribute to that ourselves... Welcome M |

A warm welcome to one who writes of amethyst eyes... some beautiful, heart-wrenching visuals here...I like the way you draw your reader in. Quietly, with measured tones. Please, check your email for a Very Special Greeting! " It matters not this distance now " Excerpt, Yesterday's Love |

Welcome to Passions, Kalandria! You have softly portrayed the harshness that lives within the lonely heart. A well-done sorrow write. |

As usual I will have to be out of step Religion and affairs and state dont normally lead to this kine of destruction on the second. Religion and State normally kill; the incident of mistress kills far less and doesn't put you under a convenient bridge - ala Pratchett that the smell drives people away from Love and Sex appear to happen, often with due regard for either's exclusive rights, or the fact that two people consider, their are only two people in their relationships and one is a journalist. Words for me were good, but my old friend tx-rx-noise triumphed Dave |

I think Bodger, that perhaps it wasn't clear that each stanza was about a different person, hence the pluralisation of face in the title. The girl in the second stanza was homeless and independent of the lovers in the first.x |
