Oklahoma I flew the 1000 plus miles To be by her side I know you I know you can’t understand Unless you’ve been there But in that stillness In that precious still moment I first saw her, saw him I felt so Alive To know that I was And was the one That she looked to And he looked up to From that arm chair Where he lay in my arms Helpless The one that he would call upon And the eyes that he would see As Grandfather "Grandfather" It seems such a distant word In retrospect Of my week’s stay With my Daughter Now living in San Diego Far from those dusty plains Where the fires burned And their fierceness churned All that she called Home For her Home smoldered And Died Along with her Motherhood dreams My Grandfather dreams When Death came And in the stillness of night In that damned night’s stillness… Someone Incredibly Docile Surrendered. This nearly breaks ones heart with the reading of it. How tragically sad but yet what wonderful imagery. |

Thank you ladies for your kind replies, This poem was written from true events and in remembrance of my first and only grandchild so far, Cole Owen Lewis, who was born on June 18th 2005 and lived but a short time in Oklahoma until he passed from SIDS on August 6th of the same year. Again, thank you for your kind replies. God bless. -Bob |

Oh what a powerful feeling of a sadness I felt as I read this poem. Yet in between the lines I read of a younger generations life and dreams. "Beautiful yes Beautiful" Debo |

Dear ((((((Bob))))), you have put your deepest love and compassion into this incredibly poignant poem. When those souls come just for a little while, we can't but wonder WHY? But they have come to teach LOVE. And those, like you, who have felt the TOUCH, know, they simply know ... and forever ... that a divine blessing has occurred ... even in the presence of our human hearts that are torn to pieces. Thank you dear Bob. Wishing your daughter the joy of having another child ... to stay. Love and hugs. Margherita |
