I’m sorry I didn’t know you I’m sorry I never tried I’ve loved you all of my life I never even knew you or your wife A vision of you haunts my mind A memory I cannot recall How can I let you leave here? Why didn’t I make at least one call? I knew where you were Yet I never paid a visit Always having something to do I never got around to you You’ve gone to be with Jesus This I know is true I look forward to the day When once again I get to meet you I mourn my loss here on earth More my own loss, than your closest friends You were my favorite relative That much will never end I wish I could say I knew you I wish I could say I tried I wish I would have taken the time Long before you died And So I say good-bye to a stranger I say farewell to a name It is pride who has put our family in danger Of dying as strangers much the same How can I say I’m sorry? How can I repent? How can restore this family, And put an end to this lament? WrittenMay 7, 2005 by Melody Wilson aka Lyn EagletonFor my favorite uncle's funeral |
