The mirror spins a lie,
a face I barely see
What time and age bequeaths,
the boy that once was me,
Where are all the smiles,
my angels’ wings?
Where are all the dreams?
Those ancient things.

Where did I go wrong?
I ask you now you’re here
Why do all my friends
fade away then disappear?
Please give me eyes to see,
a tongue to scream,
Give me back some hope,
a chance to dream.

I can’t change your face,
that mirrored stare
But I could be the boy
who once lived there.
My life isn’t done
perhaps it’s time to be
A reflection of the boy
that once was me.

The mirror spins a lie,
a face I barely see,
I stare to find the boy
I thought I used to be,
Beneath the lines of age,
those weathered things
I think I glimpsed a ghost
of angels’ wings.

Grinch?

You totally stole my attention with this!
I love the way you spun the mirror around to boyhood.  We can be anything we want, right?  (except maybe a bit younger!  Oh, I'm beginning to see a few of those gray hairs that I prefer to discard!)  Good write!

Grinch...I enjoyed seeing the boy within your poem and your mirror.  Well done!

Wow.  A very moving poem.  I'm not sure if you are a young person who feels very old and is wondering where your youth has gone or if you are an older gentleman looking back for that young boy who once was.  Often we long to be that young person we once were.  Myself, I would not want to go back over my younger years, but I do hope you find the boy you used to be.

Sincerely,
