A lifetime of teaching in one little poem? Thirty years, working with children, not easy to do. The highs and the lows are abundantly flowing. It seems like a dream I have been traveling through. A job, a career or more of a lifestyle? 24/7 thinking of students,it just might be so. Rarely a moment goes by when I’m not planning, In my mind the next lesson to help them all grow. How many pairs of eyes watched me daily? Listening, trusting me, taking my lead. Over nine hundred, close to a thousand, Allowed me to plant that wondrous learning seed. Were the frustrations I faced always well worth it? Dealing with parents who constantly complained. Following curriculum that left out the whole child. Seeing the student whose mind I failed to train. How could I trade away the life I was living? Giving and getting so much back in return. The reward, knowing that I did make a difference. Molding the minds of many who wanted to learn. What did they give me, these six year old children? They gave me their hearts, their smiles and their love. They all made me laugh, helped me feel terrific all over. Giving me warm fuzzies with hugs that fit like a glove. How can I leave this profession I love so? I don’t think I can walk from the children I adore. I can’t leave behind the room where learning was exciting, Where children felt wanted, challenged and more. Shall I exit with the memories of all of my students? I will remember their curiosity and willingness to please. I will never forget their constant eagerness to learn more. I am grateful to God who made me the teacher I wanted to be. |

YoungAtHeart~ Having such wonderful memories of the teachers that impacted my life ... I applaud this penning~ Having a son, daughter and daughter-in-law in the teaching profession ... I can so greatly appreciate the things they do, above and beyond their duty to do so~ *Huglets* ~*Marge*~ ~*The sound of a kiss is not as strong as that of a cannon, but it's echo endures much longer*~ |

God, all of us, bless you, for taking on that which we could not do....in whole. Some of us, we did it in part, some of us, you had to deal with, because they did not... but trust my heart, I thank you, and all of the teachers that strive this day, to bring the children far away from gray, and give them a light, with which to hold, and a following of life, to find their own gold. Bless you, Young at Heart... and those who may someday replace you. [I'm thinking it won't be soon!] Thank you. |

I also want to thank you for being a teacher. It sounds as if you have the love and dedication that it takes to be a great teacher. A lot of mine made an impact in my life. Hugs, Ethel |

Nicely expressed, and deserving of a bump. You did a beautiful job of capturing your love for teaching. |

It must be hard to stop doing what you love. Are you making plans to continue working with children is some capacity? Shenachie |

You know, when those children are all grown up and taking their children to school they're going to remember you... and I bet those memories are going to be good memories and then He created the horse... |
