Huan Yi’s challenge – the Rush of 40’s The wise man in my life leaned down with blue earnest eyes beseeching green, don’t rush it, don’t wish your life away, his serious becoming a complex nest for life, the eggs it could hold, the promise of wings… he held on too hard for everyone, but you’ve heard that story before… he left before I could enter 40, and I had kept from him, yes, that I had wished a few times away… can’t wait for this day to end… can’t wait for the kids to grow up… can’t wait until I can just relax… can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait… The can’t waits were as good as wishing one’s life away…as I slid through most of my 40’s while still listening to Neil singing Girl, you’ll be a woman, soon… oh, damn, he was wishing me away, too… My 40’s were still child-rearing-child with child… marking moments that someday Alzheimer’s might erase…babies births, magic moments, nuances noticed, a touch to aging skin… marking it with a poem. Then I slowed down, just toward the last of a moment before the turn, to find an instant in space, some virtual reality, of place, almost through the 48th movement, slowing pace, then rapidly beating in staccato time, to rhyme, to rhyme, to rhyme, to pick up this pace this time and place, this heart that beat in quest of life, never forgetting the be of child, youth, woman, wife… following the dream, stretching the seem… skinning the seam…allow this metamorphosis flight into some high….this blend into some new space, this new place, this new sigh… and now they ask me, look back and see as I was, then, in my 40’s…. some of us mature late in life. I am just now…. touching youth, my time for notice me left for some new form…. who will rush too soon to beyond. "There's a reason they call God The Creator - he sides with talent." Julia Cameron |

The can’t waits were as good as wishing one’s life away…as I slid through most of my 40’s while still listening to Neil singing Girl, you’ll be a woman, soon… This is soooo true |

this was exceptional writing, but my favorite part was Then I slowed down, just toward the last of a moment before the turn, to find an instant in space, some virtual reality, of place, almost through the 48th movement, slowing pace, then rapidly beating in staccato time, to rhyme, to rhyme, to rhyme, to pick up this pace this time and place, this heart that beat in quest of life, never forgetting the be of child, youth, woman, wife… and knowing me the way you do, I'm certain you know why... this was absolutely beautiful Thank you |

following the dream, stretching the seem… skinning the seam…allow this metamorphosis flight into some high….this blend into some new space, this new place, this new sigh… and now they ask me, look back and see as I was, then, in my 40’s…. When I am out of my forties and into my fifties, remind me to look back then... oh....no...don't remind me...groans... I may rememember things I just dont want to until then. Loved this sunny lady! |

As one who went to bed one night a fourteen year old girl in love praying for eighteen so I could marry and then waking up as a forty year old grandma, I totally understand and can relate to all you've eloquently said here. |

Then I slowed down, just toward the last of a moment before the turn, to find an instant in space, some virtual reality, of place, so true but for me... in the next decade~~~ hugs M |

This poem has so much wisdom and grace in it, Karilea. Truly remarkable - just like you. You captured all those "can't waits" with just the right mix of regret and longing. It hits home so very well. |

Don't give "beyond" a second thought....whether you believe in a heaven or not, the thought of it can be better than the now....and there's certainly no more to fear. ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> |
