Seahawk Fever

My grandchildren marvel at their grandmother's zeal.
Why is she excited, what is the appeal?
They don't know I'm remembering the men in my life
to whom I was sister or mother or wife.

They all watched the game, while their wives served the meal,
without having a clue why it was a big deal
when a man caught a ball and ran ten yards or more.
So what? A first down didn't add to the score.

For decades these fans watched and wanted a win;
they had their hopes dashed and waited again.
These dear men are gone, but somewhere they are grinning,
because their loved Seahawks, this year have been winning.

They would laugh at my fervor, I'm now a 12th man,
just cheering the Seahawks as hard as I can.
Thirteen wins and three losses in regular season;
if you're not a fan now, you are guilty of treason.

Just a game at a time, with a title the goal;
one more win on Sunday, we're off to the bowl.
The price of game tickets is too high for me,
I'll be watching alone on my ancient TV.
