a nasty thief, is time
especially when
the clock hand suddenly jerks itself
leaping, hours at a time
and some days fall off the calendar
    too swiftly for me

I sit and ponder,
why bother even having a clock?
why not just pace myself
sunrise to high noon to sunset?

let's see if that is possible
after all these years
of clock watching

let's see if I can remember
when the days were as long
as they needed to be,
as was the night,
no matter what I had
on my agenda, my list of to-do's

the days and nights
were always long enough
when I just let them alone,
when I allowed time to be
of no more importance to me
than the angle sunlight or shadows
could project as they
danced on the earth

You write

If you will pardon the expression

So sweetly I almost flow over the meaning and the words as you write so well.

Often too sweetly and too fast

I would in the nicest possible way, prefer your words as a main course rather than the tantalising image than you present.

LOL, hey Dixie gal, why not come out west
for a visit?
...just leave your watches and clocks at home,
for 'time is of the essence' some say
I say
time is irrelevent....

(not to mention'irreverant)

I think many of us have asked ourselves this, and you express it well....I especially loved the last stanza

Melissa~

Intellectually I know that Canada is no better than any other country. Emotionally I KNOW that Canada is the best country in the world!

Now, if we all could take on this tact of
thought....what a wonderful place our lives
would be in, huh?

A nasty thief indeed, Kacy. I admire this poem and this idea. Let's ignore the thief.
