Love Is for Strangers |

Love is for strangers: did you know this? Not for friends – why would friends need love? Friendship is complete in itself - needs no help for when friendship fails, love does not hold. The great gender attraction strikes randomly and we call it “falling in love” – why? Because that is exactly what love is: a falling, a shooting star passing through the emptiness. Two people fall in love - and much ado about that – yet if this love is not swiftly transformed into friendship the budding relationship is certainly doomed: that sort of energy attracts, does not to bind. If you would have a lasting relationship with that other, that perfect stranger, let love bring you close, but seal it in friendship for in friendship, the other can do no wrong. So much is made to ride on love, so much! But it cannot hold, for it cannot abide as such, like cupid's little arrow, it flies, it strikes and brings strangers together in passion – Obsession, passing passion, not lasting motion is made of inloveness – truly a wonderful feeling but how quickly it can become the deepest pain if one decides to “cheat” or rejects the other! But in friendship, all is, must be, allowed. Friends support, care, look out for each other, do not own one another at all – freedom rules! |

You make a good point, WindWalker, but I guess at the end of the day it's the combination of lover for love and friend for friendship that really works. |

A comment I would make is that often a woman want's friendship and that is what they tell you. It isn't a woman playing coy, they actually consider you as a friend. I can remember a guy from a long time ago who had a very good friendship with a woman that he really fancied. Some quack physco doctor told him to just go ahead on his feelings. End of friendship after the idiot believed the quack. Perhaps if we treat woman as human and not some object, then we can learn to understand as people. Dave |

you know you are right love is for stangers (and all of humanity if you're that good at loving ) but that's not all love can be for. Such as family. All in all I ejoyed this poem, abstract thoughts help me get through the day to day life of school and middle america. |

"So much is made to ride on love, so much!" Incredible thoughts in this work, windwalker. We expect love to "fix" us and work out all our problems and to live on its own without daily nourishment from us and when it cannot we pronounce it... gone. Love is a work in progress. |

On my own journey, I have come to believe, that without friendship at the base...love is merely...and never dearly. Thank you for writing this. TD |

Yes, but by definition, love is friendship and friendship is love. This doesn't hold true for feigned love or feigned friendship. - Owl |
