And he tells her
in hues of blue and black
she is nothing

And she? She listens
in shades of red and grey
edged 'round with bittersweet
lilac.

Nothing but what he
can't live without
if he but knew.

And she watches with
eyes grown old
promises that melt like
butter on a hot summer day.

He'll never change
She'll never leave

And the child watches
the child learns
he is nothing

Paula,

I wish you, and this poem
had been with me tonight,
at an Open Mic meeting...

this alone
would have blown them all away.

Gripping!
