FRECKLES

I had a this crazy Kit Kat
And Freckles was his name
He was the kind of cat
Who played a solitary game.

He was the best of friends
Who came when I'd call
And when I needed him
He'd purr and give his all.

For a whole bunch of years
He hung around the place
But if other people came
You couldn't find a trace.

He started getting sick
Thought it was the flu at first
A sore and runny nose
But it kept getting worse.

I took him to the vet
And he said it wasn't good
He gave some meds to try
And I really hoped, they would.

But, they didn't, he got worse
Cancer would bring that day
When I'd have to put him down
And send him on his way.

I just didn't have the heart
And kept hoping he'd get well
But I knew he wouldn't
And I knew he hurt like hell.

I mixed enough painkillers
To have killed six men
I gave him a lethal shot
But he came back again.

I tried it for three days
Mixed up stronger each time
But he didn't want to go
And it broke this heart of mine.

I finally had to put him down
And just put him 'neath the ground
And it surely will be lonely here
Without ol' Freckles hanging 'round.

I know the loss and feeling, Abe since I had to do the same thing to my pet Sugar of 15 years last summer.

Sobs, Abe, for the loss of Freckles. I am sure that my late and beloved horse, Flicka, will find him and make him welcome in Heaven. Flicka adored all animals and all people and all the ones who met him, adored him too.

Comforting and understanding meows and woofs from Tigger my cat and Daisy my dog.
