An endearing chapter from our colonial history, Has survived into the current century. A Governor fought collusion with common sense, And the help of relatives with good intents. The bakers of Philly had increased the price, Of the pies they baked by more than thrice. The colonials protested and sought relief, From William Penn, their Commander in Chief. Bill sought the advice of aunts Sarah and Jane, “The bakers are ruining our city’s good name.” The women conferred to devise resolution, To end the attempted baker’s collusion. Bill’s aunts decided that they would bake, One hundred pies for a bake sale date. They’d sell the pies at the original cost, Which would force the bakeries to bear the loss. The sale was a success, they sold their pies, The bakeries responded by reducing their price. An opera was written to celebrate with dance, I’m sure you’ve seen it, “The Pie Rates of Penn’s Aunts.” |

I'm betting that somebody is going to click on that pesky "Inaapropriate Content" box before this thread expires. Thankfully, Karilea has granted me clemency (for a little while). I didn't want to write this "true" story, but somebody had to do it. If it had been Toe, it wouldn't have rhymed; and if it had been 'Deer, it would have had 17 verses. |

One would need to be Elastic Man to stretch as far as you did for that punchline. Good Grief! Now I know why I've missed you here...you make the rest of us look SO good! Waiting for Toe, the pie-eyed guy to show up... |
