Dross

Open the door to your heart,
and invite youself to come on in.
Make yourself welcome,
and treat yourself like a friend.

You may find the place a bit cluttered,
cluttered to say the least.
Because sometimes we are ourseleves,
and our self can be a beast.

You might find an old pile of anger,
just sitting on a shelf.
Some you saved just for you,
and some for everyone else.

You might find a bit of hatred,
some fear, greed, or bigotry.
But when you look,
at all the unclean things that you might see.
Just tell youself self,
that's not really me.

How could self have let,
all the foul junk accumulate?
Tell yourself to clean up the place,
before it's to late.

Raise all the windows,
and open all the doors.
Roll up your sleeves,
and get busy with your chores.

A heart becomes somewhat lighter,
with each useless weight we toss.
A heart needs not these vain concerns,
like gold needs not the dross.
