Climbing Mountains Barefoot

My selfish heart
knows no different,
nothing other than holding you,
my foolish mind
wanders off to memory,
to all, it seems, I ever knew.

I'm not missing anything
that you can give to me,
it's why I have to leave
I'm certain you'll agree.

I'll never be quite capable
of forgetting you,
even in old age
or with someone new.

I do not appreciate this
selfish heart of mine
the tunnel vision
of a foolish mind
and the nights of linger
longer, asking why,
climbing mountains barefoot,
trying to reach goodbye.

~

I laughed out loud when i read that one. Only I laughed out of fear of my past. The poem makes me want to kiss somebody...

Dear Passing Shadows,

You tease our minds and that is good.  Goodbyes are never easy.  Thanks for the thought.

Our minds always want to rate and identify the special ones...those we will miss the most...although they may not have been the best...if they were...why did they end...James

yes, i have often thought it a marvel that a woman's true love never leaves her heart; even when she moves on, her heart belongs to another...thank you for that very true piece!

"climbing mountains barefoot,
trying to reach goodbye"

Goodbye is so hard to reach passing shadows. You have expressed this feeling well.
