A man walks above the forest,
over lush alpine meadows
when his instinct tells him
he's being watched.
He looks up to see a cougar
crouching on an outcropping
eyeing him.
Frightened, he freezes,
studying the movements
of this powerful predator:
would the animal pounce?

As he readied himself
to fight for his life
he hears the cougar's thoughts
float gently through
his subconscious mind,
reassuring him:

“Do not fear:
walk with understanding
and everything for you
will blend in perfect harmony;
I am only your companion!”

How many times
have we not heard that same voice
of reason and understanding
call to us
from nature's heart?
How often have we heard
and heeded the voice of spirit
calling to the soul
or in ignorant fear,
ran from the voice or
destroyed its source?

Im afraid this is one of the better poems in here. Not many replies for you, but I thought it was a well written poem. You can actually understand it!

Another great Poem WindWalker! I like the title you choose for it. I guess how well one is in harmony with nature may well be the "Measure of a Man". :-)

An exceptional write with an important message for all.

I found the following lines to be especially fine:

"Do not fear:
walk with understanding
and everything for you
will blend in perfect harmony;
I am only your companion!”"

Yes, a great and meaningful poem, WindWalker.  I know of the chaos within when surrounded by brick walls.  To be in harmony with "the wild" can only bring peace.

I like the idea, being one with nature and share the thoughts whith what we fear.

Dear WindWalker,

Thanks for the reminder that we are in nature, overnature, but not above nature.

“Do not fear:

There was a time when man walked in understanding with Nature and then...

Beutifully done WindWalker.

Windwalker,
you take the measure of man and turn it into wisdom and learning. As the ancients had wisdom so shall it be in your life.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown
