The fires do crackle and they do leap
Until the warmth does slowly creep
To ease the pain of finger cold
As knife does shape a figure of old
With deft strokes and polish stone
The shape emerges from animal bone

Finally it’s placed in proper place
Upon the rose of compass face
One to the north and one to the east
Another to south with west not least
With a sigh, the old one gazed
Then a stick to the fire with hand  upraised

The young one spoke within the still
What have you fashioned with such skill?
To the circle of fire, you told me to come
To hear the sound of the soft beaten drum
But what I see are figures of bone
Laid in the circle on points alone

The old one smiled as he burnt some sage
For it was the young ones time to come of age
These are your guides for you to keep
To give you thought before you leap
Only a bit, I will give you now
The rest will come, I surely vow

In the east, the beginnings start
With porcupine spirit to give new heart
In the south antelope spirit will give
Appreciation of life as you do live
The west is the butterfly that flutters in the light
You will know many forms fore you e’re to flight

Now the north, where the white haired ones teach
The end of the journey which you will reach
The fox is your guide to protect your own
Hidden in the forest, sometimes alone
But of your own making to remain aware
For your family’s protection is your biggest care

Be true to your guides and listen when they speak
For their words are true and for you to seek
Never mock what you do not know
For the true path is rocky and the way is slow
Now leave me to my warming fire
And seek your path with new desire

With these words the scene did change
Leaving only the lad with no exchange
Only a fire which flickered slow
For the last stick was laid with few coals aglow
Only the wolf howl came through the night
With the hand held figures reflecting the light

Ashoge, dearest Logan. Thanking you for the warm fire. Micunski always carries a handful of kindling, to assist in keeping the fires aglow.
When the sticks seem too heavy, I just try to remember all the generations of fire keepers.

Ah dear Logan,
I heard the drum, and smelled the smoke
and knew you had come home
to gift us with your presence.

I do hope if we all sit quietly
cross-legged around the fire
perhaps you will tell us more,
and stay awhile?

~Hugging you tight, Leigh Girl~

I found there lives within me..

Oh Logan,it feels so very good to have you home, and to once again share the words spoken through your pen...

peace m'friend..

Ahh, Sissie, I don’t have to tell you how it feels to write once again. Thank you for being here.Your presence is as welcome as the new rising sun...very gentle smile

Little Goose, thank you for the Christmas post. I was out West then and didn’t see it, but when I got to Gallup NM, then I thought of you, with a very gentle smile and hug to you

Dear Micunski, you know you have the sticks, it is up to you to place them on the fire, and from what I have seen, you are doing a very good job of it, very gentle smile, peace to you, and may the Raven look over you

Ahh, Leigh Girl, I have felt your thoughts and thank you for your presence
around the fire, may the fires keep you warm and your dreams be peaceful with a very gentle smile

Martie, girldear, thank you for what you said and for all you are, a very talented wonderful dear, with a very gentle smile

Donna, how can you be otherwise, than a gentle one, your kindness and thoughtfulness is a blessing to all. With a gentle smile and a blessing
to the fire

If it is good to be writing again,
then I expect more stories, soon...

or sooner.

Hello M'Lo!

You have been playing connect the dots with stars again, I see.

I adore this poem and read it with a pang--because, dearheart, I realized how very much I have missed you.

We really should get together and do some ritual work.
