Too shy to speak my mind in public
I secretly wrote my words in rhyme
That way it wasn't so confronting
Referring here to my teenage time

Unable to deal with what I felt
Writing it down made me think twice
I could speak angry or in sweet tone
Nobody but me, held those dice

Later on I used rhyming words
Into thank-you-notes and letters of heart
And when I grew older and still older
I've never considered that as art

It became my way of communication
I even introduced it at my job
Notes to my team, written in rhyme
certainly perked up that bureaucratic mob

Then one day we got this computer
Opening a world, unknown to me
And when I knew how to use it a little
I typed in Google the word 'Poetry'

I read Poets from all over the globe
Writing in English, while I wrote in Dutch
And I just thought, why don't I try that
It can't be too difficult, at least not much

But I was wrong, I got stuck in grammar
Speaking it well, wasn't simply enough
Writing it down was so much harder
And finding synonyms was really tough

And so my poems in the English language
Are quite simple, but straight from my heart
I still consider them as communications
From me to you....I'll let others write Art

Like scattered leaves...my words will flow

Titia... I don't know you yet, but I sure loved this poem. Personally, I enjoy simple texts... They are easier for me to understand. French is my first language and I faced the same challenges as you did when I started writing poetry in english (hubby doesn't speak french)... My texts are simple too.

Poetry usually comes from the heart and to me, this is all that matters. The way it comes down on the paper is only physical.

I am looking forward to reading more of your poems.

Wonderfully expressed and a work of art indeed , the computer also opened up a new world for me 9 years ago , it was then my once hidden emotions began to flow
