It's been years since my Mama went to Heaven It's been far longer since she sat me on her knee. There's a precious memory of a song she used to sing. Won't someone please sing that song to me. She'd sing Old Shep and then she'd sing another I can't recall the name or melody. I know that it won't sound like my sweet Mother But won't someone please sing that song to me. Can you please... Please sing it to me. A song my Mama sang me on her knee. There's a song I pray you'll play In which a little girl would say... Please dont give my little shoes away. I know most people wouldn't think that she sang pretty With her trembling voice she could not hold a key. But as I'd drift off to sleep... No other sound could be as sweet It was as though an angel sang to me. Can you please.... Please sing it to me. A song my Mama sang me on her knee. There's a song I pray you'll play In which a little girl would say... Mama, please don't give my little shoes away. |
