THE SECRETS OF THE WIND
26 December 2001

I want to touch the secrets of the wind,
cradle them with the softness of earth thoughts
bathed in leafy solitude.

I want to invite them to open in fresh-breathed innocence,
- delicate buds, eager to learn
the empathy of light
and the solace of shadow -
and watch them blossom to their fragrant fullness.

I want to read them like slow word poems
over and over
and glean more silvered wisdom each time
leading forwards on clean-aired pathways of light.

I want to hear their messages
whispered softly on each gust
for those who suspend all else to hearken.

I want to paint them with sunshine
and soft petal rainbows
and dance them into colour streaks across the sky
and drift them earthwards
on a flock of wild geese.

I want to draw them
like five fingers
trailing irregular spirals
in honeyed sand.
I want to taste them
quietly on my tongue
pausing
to savour
each misty
unphotographed
image,
feathered
with a brush of mystery.

I want to wrap them around me
and swim
slow-motion figures of eight
from one to another.

I want to emerge enlightened and embraced.

"I want to emerge enlightened and embraced."

You have.  You have.

Stand silent in a forest,
And listen to the wind
The wind uses the leaves and branches
To spin out stories told once
And never again.

Each time you go you will learn;
But beware,
Knowledge will be demanded of you
If you dareā€¦

Sunshine, what a sweet and beautiful thing to say!  I am so glad and honoured that it made you happy (or something else good).

Thank you passing shadows.  I'm glad you thought so.

Steven, thank you very much.

Martie, thank you.  It feels that way to me, too.  I love the wind.

Thank you JL.  That makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Thank you also for your poetic response.  Aside from the library, I like to save the poetry that I really love in separate folders named for each poet and labelled by the titles of the poems so that I can read the poems offline.  If your response has a title, please let me know.  If it is part of a longer work, please post it in its entirety.  I would appreciate it if you would drop me an email when you do (or if you have already done so) because it is expensive to be online in South Africa, especially if you have a Pay As You Go phone, as I do.
