I know why the sparrow sings
While early dew still wets the green
Before the earth is stirred by light
And other eyes invade the scene

It sings for seed and twigs and straw
For ceremonies undisturbed
It sings for its serenity,
Inherent freedom of the bird

It twitters out its morning tune
From swollen, puffed and downy breast
And in among the pleasure trills,
Commitment to a hungry nest

It sings for woods and trees and space
To be alive in nature’s bliss
I too would sing a morning song
If I were heir to all of this

Oh yes, me too!!
Very good writing, as always, Elizabeth.
