Would I wear it well?
The kind of grime
bad timing generates,
ground in so deeply
that hollow eyes mirror
a soul gasping for air?

Pestle ground soot so fine
it permanently marks one
in circumstance,
so the clean, and lily white
take a minute wondering ~
victim, or survivor?

Was just a Sunday thought after looking at the UNICEF site to see how the water situation is in various countries that have suffered and of course, it's not good!

The soot finds it way to your heart, Sharon, and pulls that beautiful empathy from it...If only it was possible to offer more then that.  I feel for them too!

good pictures...

I don't know how they can survive, but somehow they do.

I remember those days of bath night...once a week... and today we don't think of how precious water really is until we have a lack of it.

Sharon, this one hurts me.
I wish I could help them.

Funny how your mind works isn't it?  I was talking to our Serenity who had soot on her feet yesterday from a tiny accidental fire, and I got to thinking about her to be honest, and wondered if I could have ever made it through all she has, and told her I would write about her "sooty feet."     I forgot of course, and today when I saw those kids at the UNICEF site, it made me even more grateful for the little things in life we take for granted until we see those that don't have them.  Like water.  Thank you for understanding that, and showing your heart for these children, and all children that do without.

Beautiful imagery and wording to break through the dirt and grime all the way into the heart. Really well done Sharon ... excellent phrasing.

Best wishes and hugs,
/Kit

Sharon, I have told Karen I don't think I could have lived through what she is going through..it takes a tremendous amount of strength and will and faith.

it's a hard reality...you said this so well Sharon....

And so it those we live with
and should know who elude us
But we can still love them
we can love completely
without complete understanding

Um...You'd be surprised what you can do when nobody offers you an option.

And OH--I cleaned up that pile of ashes too--just 'cause I knew you couldn't stand the idea!

We have so very much to be grateful for...and your poem, Sharon, reminds me to be grateful.  There is so much "cleaning" to be done in our world....so many things that we could make better.  Thank you for reminding us.

I, too, do not know how in the world Serenity (and others) have been able to cope -- and I have to say that it shows us how strong the human spirit is.   ....jo

I remember my Gramma used to say that we are never given more than we can handle, but I look at some of the people in this world, and really can't figure out how on earth they manage.

Thanks for the heart marks.

G'day Mysteria.  Just recently cyclone Larry hit Far North Queensland and devastated much of the area.  People who had been used to living rather well were suddenly homeless and felt helpless.  They did not know how to survive without others.  We do become so complacent with mod cons and yet these little tykes struggle for survival every day.  Even in theoir poverty we can learn much from them.  Good thought provoking write.
