Oh Jack Where have you been?
We miss you And certainly, our children do
You were “box office” those many years ago Ubiquitous, and had all the juicy roles
You were, in short, The Leonardo DiCaprio of fairy tale And now, hardly a mention
I remember you as a child star Furtive, in a darkened corner Eating pilfered pie with your fingers
Or in more rambunctious parts Nimble and quick, showing off With athletic aplomb
An “action hero” in your prime In a classic quest for redemption Outwitting a giant, taking his treasure
As an older man, rail thin and pleased Happily living with his full-bottomed wife Devouring life between them
I met Another Jack back then, too The one-eyed kind
A second grader from across town A mysterious place to kids like me
Where dads, when there was one Didn’t have jobs
The playgrounds were streets Clothing and toys were catch as catch can
So, for part of your lunch, or money to buy one Jack would lift his black pirates’ patch
And give you a glimpse That what was hiding behind it
Was simply another riddle A fable without rhyme A parable lacking reason
A dark red rawness, deep in his head

Jack was nimble much too quick jumping over candlesticks
and passing greenery too slow
Jack fell down he scoffed the crown and Jill she offered medi-stick
and laughing scenery too fast
Mother Goose was much too loose and Jim? he killed the duck.
(that makes sense to somebody)
grin?
I miss y'yeti...

Yep, it's a bit of an unsettling night, here too. I think it's the relentless dreariness of this winter and the thought that there's so much more of it still to come. Nice surprise this was, Ed. Glad I stopped 'round the fire tonight...

When you told me of Jack, you never told me of his alter ego's or the winding paths he would take,
then again, I guess that only happens in your head there Mr. Rose.
A beautiful thing, indeed.
It is so good to see you in here.
I miss your writing.

But here:
Was simply another riddle A fable without rhyme A parable lacking reason
A dark red rawness, deep in his head
You describe life itself so very clear.

I'm gonna beg you, Ed....PLEASE do a HOBO POEM FOR ME.
(I could hear your voice as I read through the terminology.)
Um, I mean that as a compliment.
And I miss hearing your voice, too.

you see life in such an unfiltered way..
it makes those of us that don't, want to follow close behind so all the debris gets cut away.

Wranx...
I may have been one of the first to have read this, earlier this morning. But...you laid so many Jacks on the table, I had to go through my own hand to see if I had any left, or if, perhaps, were I to play Old Maid, I could match you, somehow, for the memories you splayed before us.
The compliments, responses, comments, are on the table, Sir...
but to this, I add my story of memories, and would not up the ante, but just thank you for the game of memory, and allow that you should deal another hand...
for the hoboes.

I just told him the same thing about the Hobo poem . . . because you damn well know he will pull it off beyond anything we can imagine.

LOL ROFL hahahaha This is the 3rd of your posts I have discovered. First was your Tuesdays poem. I became an instant fan. Then...Your "End of Time", and all I could do was ::bow:: Now this... And I must laugh! I have to laugh! I am so impressed ! I mean deep to the marrow of my bone and core of my soul...IMPRESSED !!!! I laugh because, this is a very rare phenomenon for me. Should it continue, I face the fear of granting you "guru" status. LOL But, I MUST continue. Regardless... Thank you for touching me so ! As I am about to move on, in search of more of your posts... Thank you for these prior 3 that have impressed me so much and brought such pleasure into the moment of SEEING. LOL If my life was not already filled with blessings overflowing... These alone... LOL ... Have been worth the price of admission. ::bows::

Maybe Jack ate too much fat or he fell down a hill or got burned or fell down the beanstock or the house he built crashed down on him, I guess he wasnt that nimble.
