There ain't a soul within my sites
about what ain't and might be right
no one's planted fingerprints
or left some DNA of lip--
they saw her pedaling her bike
and noted that her skin was white
so they screamed the epitaph
left her writhing as they laughed--

and no one saw a thing.

Me, who's always asking why
cannot even dream a lie
of reasoning to make it right--
they must take drugs to sleep at night
they couldn't know she is a nurse
who is the subject of this verse
a soul so pure she can not curse
she makes excuses for the worst

in all of us, for everything.

Now everyone, they want to know
why she chose to ride that slow
down the street where no one goes
as if it were her fault to go
down that street
(the inbetween)
of houses white
and poverty
around the corner to the field
where blackberries abound in spring
a basket that held naught but hope

was left there lying in the street.

I pray for her recovery--
and that her heart mends with the bone
for such a soul I've never known--
because in matters of the skin
and even human err of sin
Laura is a step above--

she never saw a thing...but love.

just prayers please--she is in recovery, and I have heard from other nurses it's harder on them to be the patient.

But thank you.

Laura is among the people I can file under "Angels on Earth."

We need her here. So prayers, yes?

thanks Kari

I can't help with a title... I can only tell you how my heart overflowed with the reading... and how fervently I hope your friend will recover with both body and spirit intact.

ruth and everybody...just hugs...

the title came to me from the suggestions--Lara's Theme is one of my favorites.

So thanks all, and please continue to pray for Laura--the world needs her.

Sometimes the most obvious
escapes me...

one of my favorites, too.

Excellent tribute...excellent understanding.

As always.

And something from someone that we look forward to hearing from, every day.

Karen...Very tender write from your heart.
My prayers and hope for full recovery for her come on wings of the angels.

Reminds me of another nurse from our town many years ago, Jo Ellen Smith. Her ending was very sad and touching.
