Sounding I sound the bottoms shallow draw To watch the distance of the floor And stay away from rocks and stones This ship that stays my flesh bones I throw my weight to read the deep To stay my ship a course to keep But oft my line would foul a hole And show false reading to my soul It’s hard to stay devoid of strife The whole and balance of my life The wear and tear the slime and grime That tallies on our prime and time And when I look the mirrors clew I see more lines of added view With parchment layers pealed to thin I see the blood flow neath the skin And so old age now steers the show Bnt still I sound where ere I go |
