It seems today was last week, before the last snows fell into the fire hydrant, denying the dog his pleasure. That the month was months ago as the band played on at the corner, just up from Fifth and First, a place where a quarter got you a sad tune and the tune brought a lonely tear. Yes, time, treasured by some, dreaded by others...well, it stands there in the back...shrouded eyes, unseen leer....the scythe poised to fall suddenly. And when my time comes, play the tune, an old Irish tune...and toast one more for me and him, the one who stands in the back....silently laughing as he drains a flask of time...once more. |

"And when my time comes, play the tune, an old Irish tune...and toast one more for me and him, the one who stands in the back....silently laughing as he drains a flask of time...once more." Aye, and may the wind always be at your back... Excellent Barry. Hugs~Nancy ~ Trace my body with your words, |

"It seems today was last week" Isn't that the truth, yet in some ways, so far away! Buttons |

Poignant Barry and so well written. That last stanza took my breath away. |

Your pen is flourishing... and I'm so glad to see it primed, and ready for more. Continue, please, if only to please the reader. |

I've been doing a lot of comparisons lately... now with a year ago... or two. *S* And this touches something deep within me... May the time for your tune be many years down the road... thank you for this! *S* |

Barry, this is so poignantly written, but sprinkled throughout with the inevitable. Time does wait behind us, yet catches everyone of us somehow. We laugh and cry with memories, but I somehow think you are probably a man who fully lives very much in the present, as well. I am so taken with your metaphors and imagery. ~ Karen ~ |

"It seems today was last week, before the last snows fell into the fire hydrant, denying the dog his pleasure." This made me laugh in the midst of this poignant poem, you land upon that random observation, and it's so perfect! Smashing |
