Often times I regret having left you behind, For I would have liked to have known you more. But, I felt it best not to follow, And your company not to implore. You were young and not yet wise to man. His ways are treacherous and mean. Preoccupied, you dropped your guard, And allowed yourself to be seen. It matters not what others may think Concerning the reality of you. Perhaps its best that they dont believe that the rumors all are true. Stories told around ancient fires by Medicine men, chiefs and braves... Tales to Boy Scouts, by their troop leaders... Such things, the young mind craves. The authorities say that to confirm your life, One of your kind must be killed. But as to date there are born among men None who are that skilled. No longer will they listen to "mythical" tales. There must be evidence to show. But, it matters not what others think... As for me... I know ! You are not part human, but total beast. Of a type they do not find. And I am of a type of man that too is a vanishing kind. You are running out of places to hide. There is no returning where you've been. Your world is shrinking all around you, as the advancements of man crowd in. We are not that different, you and I So, perhaps again, we shall meet each other. And 'tho you are beast and I am man... I feel compelled to call you... Brother. Perhaps one night we shall share a camp, As your kind and mine are shoved aside; And we will give our final beastly howls, In that last little corner to hide. |
