Something you must understand: people who don't know take turns dancing with the shadows of the elbows dressed in black & white trained to trail a train of silk they seek a different end than us - they greet each other with a kiss as though they practiced fluttering with a hand-held fan daydream of blushing natural between the fronds of plastic snapped in screen mocking whisper from behind dangling a knot and glossed fringes giggle bells of Saint Mary's she begins to ring the parliament to home, we sing, "Hail Ye Ancient Holy Queen" we free the very hairs upon our chests. Waving resolute we bleed the glory from the pores of need in absolution of ourselves singing "Ave" in the streets as they hose the piss, they play screaming our remorse (of course) as we worship mother's mead washing sins away we seek a better way to die. |

Watched a bit of news last night of areas where a friend survived ~ wondered how the gaiety [and beads] would ever come alive when the ruins are round the corner where the feet won't dance the street ~ and wondered what the joy might be behind any mask's defeat Wondered too of swelling tears that may, or not, release ~ in silent ache a prayered blessing that my friend find a certain peace. ~*~ Take the high road of incredible and know my thoughts are with you. |

I suppose as with any celebration, each pair of eyes see something different in the "mask" and hear their own tune. You're awesome. hugs, Chris |

We are watching it all on the cams, and loving the spirit of the people there. One day I shall be there, but for now I am here there with you. |

Hey ya'll! Happy Mardi Gras! (suits moi eh?) We have been watching the parades, and having fun with you all down there all weekend, but next time I will be there! Nola.com does a great job of keeping us in the loop. |

Oh I almost forgot! I sure the money spent on Mardi Gras will generate a lot of revenue for rebuilding your city, and that the money goes to making New Orleans the old girl we all have grown to love as a destination of choice, and a part of America's history. Have a wonderful Mardi Gras - all of you down there! |

thank you Although written last year, somehow I thought this one was more appropriate this year. And I wish I were there, but health and other responsibilities have kept me a silent sideliner again this year, but I am very proud of my city, even as we hear the criticism of whether or not such a celebration is appropriate this year. That's when something occurred to me. I've been wondering what it is about New Orleans that evokes such strong emotion from the rest of the country, and as I watch, along with so many of you, is that we seem to have a hard time being properly "pitiful." Until the catastrophe of Katrina, I don't think I recognized how my of my personality was shaped by my environment. And today, I'm very proud of my city--and even as miss some of our displaced residents, I would hope that they understand "why" this was such a vital point of our recovery. As I told someone (quite snippily too) when I was questioned regarding the wisdom of rebuilding of New Orleans, and I quote me here: "As long as there is a stick of wood floating through the port of New Orleans, there will be an expletive brass band playing on it!" My time here may soon be coming to an end, but ya'll surely must have guessed by now, that New Orleans has my heart forever as "home". I thank you all, who were gracious enough to share our joy of survival and fortitude with us. |

(smiles) And I am most proud of where you call "home" too in that, despite the terrors of yellow fever, despite the horrors of civil war and now, despite the sorrows of Katrina, you and tens of thousands of other citizens there and millions more nationwide are seeing to it the hope lives on there, and what better way to do so than to keep the culture and diverse personality of the region alive! (angel friendship hugs) I've never lived in New Orleans like you, but I am as happy as a pig in slop that I have gotten to visit the Crescent City a few times prior to Katrina, and would still like to visit again in the near future! God Bless You, sweet friend, this is a wonderful poem, I hope you had (or are still having, LOL!) a Mardi Gras blast and by the way, no, I did not get the king cake baby this year! (giggles) Yay, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Karen, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other" |
