There is a great storm upon the mountain. The Pessimist parks his cadillac. The Optimist parks his motorbike. And the Taoist sets down his pack. The three men all find shelter.. Within an empty shack. The Pessimist whines, " I'll be late for my meeting ." " I must sign important forms. " The Optimist says, with a soothing voice... " Soon, all will return to norm ." The Taoist looks out through the open door... Smiling at the storm. The Pessimist paces back and forth. Cursing his rain soaked clothes. The Optimist exhales a small, faint sigh. and says, " Well, thats the way it goes." The Taoist takes off his shoes and steps outside. To feel the mud between his toes. The Pessimist says, " I'm a helpless case. " " My dreams will never come to pass. " The Optimist says, " I've seen hard times. " " But, I know they do not last. " The Taoist says, " I am a blade of grass. " " Within a field of grass. " The Pessimist complains, " This pouring rain.... I hope it lets up before brunch ." The Optimist says with a soothing tone... " I'm sure it will by lunch ." The Taoist, being hungry now ... Finds three carrots for each to munch. The Pessimist says, " But, it's so skinny ... If this is all... I cannot bear it. " The Optimist says, " But, it's so long... I guess that I can share it. " The room is filled with a munching sound... as the Taoist eats his carrot. Then , the three divide a lemon. The Pessimist whines, " This is too bitter for me. " The Optimist says, in response... " It would be wonderful with tea. " The Taoist sucks a slice and says... " It is , as it should be. " The roads wash out and night moves in . The three men , in forty watt light... The Pessimist whines about the time, and curses at his plight. The Optimist tries to pacify and says ... " All will be alright. " The Taoist smiles at the singing frogs. As their chorus fills the night. The lights go out. The Pessimist whines , " The darkness, I cannot handle. " The Optimist says, with a soothing tone... " Relax , I'll light a candle. " The Taoist lays down on the floor. And kicks off both his sandals. The Pessimist says, " Sleeping without a pillow ... will do my neck and head much harm. " The Optimist says, with a soothing tone... " You'll be fine, dont be alarmed. " The Taoist rest his peaceful head upon his folded arms. |

This is great. I love a poem that has a story, is slightly humorous, and has a deeper meaning - this has all three. It was a bit long, though I like short poems so I'm biased. Cheers, David |
