I tripped over you memory last night And fell all over again I bumped into your picture this morning And began to feel the pain I swam through your sorrow once again And drowned in your rain When I saw you last, it was the last time Your words hurt me in a way that will never heal When I last spoke with you, it was good bye Your icy stare gave me chills Thinking I’d never know love again I locked myself away in my head Never leaving the world of dreams Never facing the true reality I got up this morning looking around For anything to remind me of you All I could find is a ring on you finger And smile upon your face as you watch me I wish you would let me go from here So I could let you rest In reality, I am here and you are gone But in my heart you’ve never left I tripped over your memory last night And fell all over again Lyn Eagleton |

Oh how true. I'm happily married yet I occasionally trip over a memory of a specter of the past who once thrashed my wolrd. Your poem both eloquently, as well as plainly captures, that scene which many of us know only so well. Excellent work. |
