The Clown Remember the circus tent With the colorful clown They made you laugh When you wore a frown Shot from a canon High in the air You’ll remember their face From that distant stare Hand painted with care To bring each girl & boy That remarkable gift Of laughter and joy Walking on stilts Or walking upside down You can never forget That face on a clown They saved the bull rider At the town rodeo Smiling as they shake the crowd’s hands While they sway to and fro A balloon made into a giraffe Was a children’s delight A magic trick, comedy scene, or juggling act Was more than alright! Tossing out candy and gum At a local parade You can’t even imagine All the friends they have made Each one of them is unique Just like you and me Dressed in bright colors For everyone to see So when you try to be funny In your own special way Remember there’s a clown inside of you, stowed secretly away To bring us everlasting love & joy Whenever sadness darkens the day! ANNE SHIEVER Written July 27th 1970 This poem was Nominated for One of the Best Poems of 2005 by Muses Review, and is in my book 'INSIDE MY HEART, MIND & SOUL' so I wanted to share it with you here today. It is a delightful piece to read...reminds me a little of a poem I once wrote that was called "A Child Is"... Congratulations on the poem and welcome to PIP.... |

Thanks Magnus, I appreciate the comments, and it helps me see things from other eyes as well. Anything that helps me to blossom and grow in poetic muse is why I am here. I want to be the best I can be, Again, thanks! Anne Shiever |

"So when you try to be funny In your own special way Remember there’s a clown inside of you, stowed secretly away To bring us everlasting love & joy Whenever sadness darkens the day!" Oooh yes, I can relate to this! What wonderful lighthearted feelings this left me with! ~Smiles & Hugs, Nancy~ In the midst of winter, |

very cute, Anne clowns make such a wonderful topic for poetry. The meter is rough in several places and the non-rhyming couplet ending caught me by surprise but the poem is very upbeat and enjoyable overall Nicely done! |

Hi Anne! I was really struck by this poem when you allowed me to read it back to you--out loud, expressing what I heard. I love clowns and applaud their willingness to look foolish to cheer and protect others--So self-effacing to take the focus off the importance of their true function. Just looking for more of the same from a delightful new poet! Shenachie |

Looking forward to seeing you at our next meeting, Anne. And take a moment to share some more of your work with Passions. As I have, I am sure you will benefit from all that is shared with you, as well as they, from you. |
