Unfettered window, tepid sun, this Winter’s day of weather jumble has begun, silly newsies like to run in circles as they chant their liturgies to chicken little’s son. I can’t reach the memories of childhood when I would pray for snow so I could drag my bladed sleigh out from beneath the piles of life’s debris, and for brief moments I’d be free to go flying down the icy hills of snow; somewhere within the years that went through my life, I lost the skills to sing that freedom song of single note, the throaty yell of childhood’s tenor just barely in control as at the edge of terror I’d go flying through the snow. ©2006 by icebox [This message has been edited by icebox (02-11-2006 11:29 AM).] |

"I lost the skills to sing that freedom song of single note, the throaty yell of childhood’s tenor" Really? Could have fooled me...lol -- 'Course I guess I would not call it a throaty tenor now...the voice is mature! The snowy hill has changed and the sled's a different vehicle, but maybe you still play daredevil now and then, huh? Much enjoyed this write and it did evoke memories of my brother double dog daring me to stand up on my sled while going down the hill; sled jumping cow paths causing it to fly into the air and eventually crash into the icy stream below...frostbitten hands....mom's hot cocoa and chili...and the desire to do it all again a couple of hours later. |

"I can’t reach the memories of childhood when I would pray for snow" And yet you reached them so well. And you reached my memories so well too. I enjoyed myself greatly. Thank you. |
