When visiting my shack, you may not notice a mirror One could, in fact, believe there are none Though, the truth is, I have mirrors everywhere The medicine cabinets’ door is an empty frame now Yet, I can see a younger man suffering from influenza His face, wan with its aches and its ague The walls too are mirrors, plain and unpainted They stay busy all day reflecting each other Reminding themselves of their place in the world Through the ash and dust on its rough granite stones I see reflected in the hearth, the sweat and the splinters The exertions of Autumn, and trees rendered, smoke And at night, or when the sky is dark, I could, if I wanted See, in the thin skin of windowpanes, a reasonable facsimile Of a man considering life without echoes |

I knew this would not be an average "mirror" poem but always something more. |

Disconsolate mouths sputter pyres, laden with hematic threats of arrows driven deep into the hearts of Heaven. We are our own AntiChrist. Oh, to be rid of thought, the hauntings of self-ruin. Douse my skull entombed, with melodic philosophy. White matter pulsates, volcanic. Take in hand chisel and hammer. Crack this marrow. Feed on my life. |

silently reading the write and feathered reply ..knowing that mirrors can never reveal the depth of each layered thought |

made me think... and all I could think was, with no mirrors how do you see progress? doesn't a mirrorless life become stagnant? *my questions are always a way to find new information, clarification or insight* "too bad ignorance isn't painful" |

Ed You made me realize just how many mirrors I have in my life, and think about living without them. Great reflective poem! |

wranx The mirrors you speak of are the mirrors of the mind and those are the ones I always find. |
