Emotions Held Within

To share with her the way I feel
I never have been able to
not since I was a teen
her words were always cruel
You have no reason to feel that way
is what she always said to me
I felt that way just the same
whatever the reason may be
To feel anger, sadness or the like
according to her made you bad
Her words were as sharp as a knife
sticking straight into your heart
As the years came and went
she never did see why
you would feel so depressed
Her response would always be
you must like it that way
or you would change
Still, it is her desire to think
our relationship is good
She fails to realize, when
unwanted feelings are there
they are there for a reason
With no one I can talk to
or anyone who cares
I hold them all inside me
to protect myself from her words

other than saying that sometimes a person does the best they can with what they have as knowledge and experience...knowing that can't make up for the hurt though of a seemingly uncaring parent
